The inspiration for the Four Seasons' 'Rag Doll'

The Four Seasons' "Rag Doll" was number one on the charts 50 years ago today. It was the 4th song by the group to make it to number one. According to co-writer Bob Gaudio, the song was inspired by a girl who cleaned the windshield of his car for spare change and was shocked to receive a $20 bill.

Gaudio and Four Seasons co-founder Frankie Valli are doing quite well financially these days. They reportedly get six percent of the profits from "Jersey Boys" the Tony-award winning musical about the Four Seasons. So far that show has grossed over $1.7 billion. The movie based on the musical which came out earlier this summer doesn't look like it will be anywhere near as profitable.
