Donor gives Purple Heart to stabbing victim

The Waukesha girl who was stabbed 19 times, allegedly by two classmates who thought her death would please a fictional online character, has received a special gift.

The 12-year-old girl is out of the hospital and has been recovering at home. Her family had asked that well-wishers send her purple hearts, reflecting her favorite color and shape. She was inundated with paper hearts from around the country.

Now one anonymous donor has given her the real thing: a military Purple Heart. The medal is awarded to veterans who are wounded or killed in action.

The girl's family said Tuesday the medal came with a card that read, "The only heart I could find! Be strong!"

The girl's family has asked that her name not be revealed.
