Ten years ago this week, the 9/11 Commission issued its influential report on the prevention of terrorist attacks. Former New Jersey Governor Tom Kean chaired the 9/11 Commission and was featured in an Aspen Ideas Festival panel to discuss how far we've come, or not come... and why. Also on the panel were former Congresswoman Jane Harmon, who is an intelligence expert and is now President of the Woodrow Wilson Center and Admiral Thad Allen, former commandant of the US Coast Guard. The members of the 9/11 Commission released a new report July 22, 2014 to reflect the altered but dangerous terrorist threat facing the nation. Ten years after the release of the commission's original report, with mounting threats from the resurgence and transformation of al Qaeda, Syria and a rapidly changing cyberspace, the commission's new report calls for a vigorous and proactive counterterrorism effort.
