Police: Minnesota man suffocated infant daughter

Duluth police have arrested a man in the suffocation death of his 14-month-old daughter.

WDIO-TV reports 29-year-old Christopher Peterson was charged Wednesday with unintentional second-degree murder.

Police say the girl was dead when they arrived at the scene on July 6. Peterson had called 911 about the infant not breathing. Police say the girl's mother was there at the time of the call.

Peterson tells police he covered the infant's mouth with his hand and pinched her nose to make her stop crying. He says he'd done it several times before the fatal incident.

The St. Louis County Medical Examiner's Office says the manner of death was homicide by suffocation.

Police say Peterson is the only suspect in the case. It wasn't immediately clear if he has a lawyer.
