Promoters of professional soccer in Minnesota are hoping to build on the success of a big event for their sport over the weekend. Over 34,000 people were on hand at TCF Bank Stadium Saturday to watch the Greek team Olympiakos beat Manchester City in a shootout.

That game was one of a series of exhibition games featuring English Premier League teams being staged across the U.S. and Canada this summer. It was followed by a North American Soccer League game between the Ottawa Fury and Minnesota United.

MPR's Phil Picardi spoke with Howard Sinker, a digital sports editor for the Star Tribune, about the future of professional soccer in Minnesota.
