Driver injures two bicyclists in hit-and-run

For the second time in eight days, a car fled after striking bicyclists in the metro area.

A 62-year-old Minneapolis woman is in jail after she allegedly struck two bicyclists in northeast Minneapolis Saturday night around 10:30 p.m. at Broadway Street Northeast and Marshall Street Northeast.

Police say the woman kept driving from the scene, but her car broke down not far away. She was arrested on probable cause for criminal vehicular injury.

The victims, Jason Bradley, 29, and Kathryn Bradley, 28, both of Minneapolis, were taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he was in serious condition Sunday afternoon.

The driver was taken to North Memorial Medical Center where she was treated for minor injuries, and then booked in Hennepin County Jail. Minneapolis Police Spokesman John Elder says alcohol is believed to be a factor, though test results are pending.

It is the second hit and run involving bicyclists in the last two weeks. Last Saturday, two bicyclists were struck by a vehicle in Oak Park Heights. One of the bicyclists died as a result of her injuries.

The Minnesota State Patrol is asking for help tracking down the driver of the vehicle.

Elder says drivers need to be mindful of bicyclists. "We just want everybody to remember Minneapolis is a very strong bicycling city and we need to make sure we're watching out for our two wheeled friends."
