St. Paul City Council approved a $250 million resolution last month to continue studying a revival of the city's streetcar systems.

Marketplace Economics Editor Chris Farrell says this idea is antiquated and inefficient compared to what other metros around the world are doing in terms of public transportation: trying to eliminate cars out of cities.

The mayor of Brussels, Belgium wants to turn the central city into a spacious, cafe-filled promenade. In Helsinki, they're contemplating a plan that would use mobility-on-demand by 2025--removing the presence of most cars in the city.

What would it look like if our cities really "leaned forward" on transportation? Should we be looking over our shoulders into the past for our mobility needs of the future? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.
