Friday Festivals: Smokefest in Marshall, Minn.

This week's festival takes us to Southwest Minnesota State University for the annual Smokefest competition.

Smokefest starts Friday, but the barbecue judging starts Saturday at noon -- on the campus of Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall.

It's a high stakes event and Brian Brandt, one of the founders and a loyal competitor, joined MPR's Tom Crann to talk about it.

A couple other festivals happening this weekend:

• The 39th annual Saint Cloud Car Show will have some beautiful antique cars on display. All are welcome -- whether you're looking to buy -- or just peek under the hood.

• Or go lake-side for Cajun Fest. The Northern Lights Casino in Walker is putting on the three-day event, which goes through Saturday. As the website says -- "Cajun music and Cajun food....what more could you ask for?"

• And -- billed as the "Biggest Small Town Celebration in Otter Tail County" -- Vining is holding the forty second annual Watermelon Day tomorrow. Tie your shoelaces tight -- the Run for the Melon 5-K and 10-K Walk / Run starts at 8 a.m.
