Why some Prince songs aren't in his greatest hits compilations

Today's Morning Edition music is from the song "Electric Chair," by Prince. It's from director Tim Burton's version of "Batman," with Michael Keaton as the caped crusader. The movie soundtrack which was the No. 1 album in the U.S. 25 years ago this week.

The song was a big hit, staying at the top of the charts for six weeks. But Prince had to sign over the publishing rights to the songs to Warner Brothers. As a result, none of the songs used in the movie could be included in any of his greatest hits compilations.
