A number of studies in the current issue of the New England Journal of Medicine raise interesting questions about salt intake — and one researcher even suggests that too little salt in your diet may be as harmful as consuming too much.

But don't see that as permission to up your consumption of salt. The data shows that most of the world's salt intake is still too high.
