Lightning strikes start fires in Duluth

Three separate buildings in Duluth were hit by lightning during storms on Sunday night, causing two fires and damage to the structures. The Duluth Fire Department said no one was injured.

Lightning hit the chimney of an apartment and commercial building on East Superior Street at about 9:30 p.m. It destroyed the chimney and blew a hole in roof at the height of the storm, causing about $75,000 in damage.

A single-family home on Owatonna Street in Woodland also caught fire after being hit by lightning, causing about $40,000 in damage. A home in West Duluth also lost power after being hit.
