'Where Did Our Love Go" marked a Supremes change of fortune

Fifty years ago today, "Where Did Our Love Go" by the Supremes was the No. 1 song on the pop charts.

When the women recorded the song, they were known as the "no-hit Supremes" by the other Motown artists because their first eight singles had bombed.

According to Lamont Dozier, who co-wrote the song, it was originally rejected by the Marvelettes. The Supremes then reluctantly agreed it, and the song would ultimately became the first of five straight singles by the group to top the charts.
