Police search Blaine airport for accused murderer
Authorities have cordoned off the Anoka County-Blaine Airport after a reported sighting of a man wanted for an August murder and weekend bank robbery.
The Ramsey County Attorney's Office last month filed charges against Lyle "Ty" Marvin Hoffman, 44, in the shooting death of attorney Kelly Phillips. Hoffman is charged with second-degree murder and a national warrant has been issued for his arrest.
Prosecutors say Hoffman shot Phillips, an attorney for Boston Scientific, in the parking lot of a gas station on Aug.11.
Hoffman also is suspected in the armed robbery of a TCF Bank branch on Sunday in Blaine, according to the sheriff's office. The northern Twin Cities suburbs have been a focus of the search for Hoffman since shortly after Phillips shooting death.
Police officials in Blaine say they believe Hoffman may have been spotted again near the airport about 5 a.m. They say SWAT teams and investigators are searching the area again, after combing the airport Monday.
Hoffman is considered armed and dangerous. Authorities have established a $25,000 reward for information that leads to his arrest and conviction.
