MnDOT plans Hwy 100 overnight closing to fix bridge after concrete drops

Minnesota Highway 100 in St. Louis Park will close overnight later this week to fix a portion of the 36th Street bridge after a chunk of it fell on a vehicle.

The incident happened Tuesday while crews were working on the bridge. A grinder's vibration apparently loosened a 5 pound chunk of concrete from the underside of the bridge that fell on the van's windshield, said Minnesota Department of Transportation spokeswoman Bobbie Dahlke.

MnDOT will shore up the bridge. The structural integrity of the bridge is not affected, Dahlke added.

KARE 11 reported the van was occupied by a Bloomington couple, and they suffered minor injuries.
