Hoffman has been charged in the shooting death of Boston Scientific executive Kelly Phillips outside a gas station in Arden Hills on Aug. 11. Hoffman was captured in Shakopee last Thursday morning after someone near a shopping center called police to report suspicious activity.

The reward money was raised by friends and family of Phillips during the month-long manhunt for Hoffman. The fund was administered by the Minneapolis-based Council on Crime and Justice.

Phillips' friends and family released the following statement: "It is a fitting tribute to Kelly's work in our community that the community itself was so active in pursuit of justice. Words cannot express the thanks we extend to the individual who led law enforcement to the suspect. We thank all who stayed alert and called in tips, and we thank the individuals and businesses who donated so generously to the reward fund."
