Barry White tops charts, attracts snakes

40 years ago today "Can't Get Enough of Your Love, Babe" by Barry White was the number one song on the pop charts. It was his first and only chart topper. It was his first and only chart topper.

The song was featured prominently in a 1993 episode of the Simpsons where Bart and Lisa enlist White to perform the song in hopes that the vibrations from the low notes will attract snakes to their home where they will be safe from a mob of Springfield residents eager to kill snakes during the annual "whacking day" ritual.

The episode won a Genesis Award from the Humane Society for raising public awareness of animal issues.
