The Minnesota Department of Education is set to release new ratings for state schools today.

The ratings — called Multiple Measurement Ratings or MMRs — look at how much improvement schools have made based on test scores and graduation rates. The ratings also track the level at which schools are closing the academic achievement gap between white students and students of color. Statewide test scores released in August make up one part of a school's overall MMR score. The August stores showed little improvement over the previous year.

MPR's Cathy Wurzer spoke with State Education Commissioner Brenda Cassellius about the ratings.
