Mendota Heights tennis coach accused of having sex with student

A former coach at a Mendota Heights school faces two counts of criminal sexual conduct with a student.

The charges released by the Ramsey County Attorney's office say Daniel Hubbard Wilson, 27, met the student when she was a freshman at Visitation School and he was a tennis coach. The student, who will turn 17 next month, was 15 years old when they began a sexual relationship.

An emailed statement from the head of school, Dawn Nichols, confirmed Wilson worked at the school but resigned September 24 "citing family reasons." Nichols said he had been suspended the day before "after concerns were raised about an inappropriate relationship with a minor."

Nichols also said the school conducted background checks on Wilson, as they do with all new hires.

According to the criminal complaint, both Wilson and the student talked about the possibility of him going to jail because of the relationship.

The victim told St. Paul Police about three other young women with whom Wilson "indicated he had been romantically involved."

The complaint says the girl's father confronted her "about an inappropriate relationship he suspected she was having with her tennis coach" and she admitted the relationship was sexual. On the day the teen talked with police, Wilson allegedly texted her father saying he fell in love with the girl and that he "made decisions I absolutely never should have at this time."
