Police nab suspect in brazen Mpls. ramp attacks

Police have arrested a 22-year-old man suspected of assaulting two women in a downtown Minneapolis parking ramp this week.

The two assaults happened within a few hours of each other in Parking Ramp C on Tuesday afternoon. Police say the first attack was interrupted when a bystander scared the suspect away. Fewer than three hours later, police believe the same man forced another woman in the ramp into her car and sexually assaulted her.

Police spotted the suspect this morning at the corner of 4th Street and Nicollet Mall. They arrested him without incident.

Downtown officers made catching the man a priority this week, said Minneapolis Police Sergeant Katie Blackwell.

"All the officers took it very personal, especially because of the time of day it was occurring," Blackwell said. "We looked at it like this could be our daughter or one of their wives. There was a lot of happy cops today that we were able to get him in custody."
