Incumbent DFL Gov. Mark Dayton and his Republican challenger, Hennepin County Commissioner Jeff Johnson, debated the issues at an event sponsored by the Duluth Chamber and the Duluth News Tribune at the Duluth Playhouse on Oct. 14, 2014.

In their first one-on-one debate Tuesday morning, the candidates both grabbed for the mantle of middle-class champion. The debate was Minnesota's first in two decades to feature only a pair of candidates.
