U renames children's hospital after $25M Masonic Charities gift
A $25 million gift from Minnesota Masonic Charities has prompted the University of Minnesota to rename Amplatz Children's Hospital. It will be known now as the University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital.
The contribution will go toward advance research in areas including neurobehavioral development, rare and infectious diseases, and stem cell therapies, the university said in a statement Tuesday. The university said Minnesota Masonic Charities is now its largest donor, having contributed $125 million over the past six decades.
The university facility opened in 2011 and was named in honor of Kurt Amplatz, a former radiology professor and pioneering medical device maker, following a $50 million pledge by his daughter, Caroline Amplatz. She relinquished her naming rights in March.
