3M encourages employees to make solar leap

3M is offering employees 30 to 35 percent discounts on solar panels for their homes.

The Maplewood-based company is also offering to help employees plan and install solar-panel projects.

The initiative began last week, but it was formally announced Wednesday during a solar power conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Cisco and Kimberly Clark will also offer these benefits.

Gayle Schueller, 3M's vice president of global sustainability, joined MPR News' Steven John to talk about the new program.
