Police release man arrested in fatal Maplewood shooting

Maplewood police have released a 19-year-old man arrested Sunday after a fatal shooting.

Terrence Jermaine Woods, 25, died at Regions Hospital of gunshot wounds after an argument with several men outside Merwyn Liquors on Rice Street late Saturday. A second man suffered leg injuries.

Police arrested the 19-year-old several hours later because they said his car matched witnesses' descriptions. But Maplewood Police Chief Paul Schnell said the man is no longer a suspect.

"Further information came in that indicated while he may have been in that area, we are unable to place him there directly," Schnell said. "And we were able to check some of that information out with other people, which ultimately prompted his release."

Schnell said investigators are still looking for three or more people who shot at the victims from a white car. He says the suspect vehicle may be a Honda Accord or a Chevrolet Impala.

Police are urging any additional witnesses to come forward.
