Today's Morning Edition music pays homage to rock and roll legend Jerry Lee Lewis. The Killer releases his third album in a decade today. The new album is titled "Rock & Roll Time.

Meanwhile, Lewis' first authorized biography also comes out today. "Jerry Lee Lewis: His Own Story" was written by Pulitzer Prize winner Rick Bragg. It is the story about a boy who grew up in rural Louisiana during the Depression, taught himself to play the piano, and became one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. The book describes his tumultuous personal life filled with crime, booze, drugs, guns and seven marriages. But what stands out is the unique and powerful music that he created. Bragg says Lewis was influenced early on by musicians like Hank Williams, Al Jolson, and the man known as the Singing Brakeman.
