Zdenko Jakisa wants immigration fraud case dismissed

A Minnesota man accused of getting into the U.S. by concealing his military service during the Bosnian war is asking that the case be dismissed.

Zdenko Jakisa has pleaded not guilty to possessing unlawfully obtained documents. Prosecutors say he got his green card illegally when he didn't disclose his armed service in Bosnia-Herzegovina in the 1990s. He also concealed that he'd been accused of killing a neighbor.

Jakisa's attorney says prosecutors waited too long to charge Jakisa. The defense says a key witness to the killing has died.

Court documents suggest Jakisa also may have been suspected in other killings. Seven witnesses were questioned in Bosnia about his alleged participation in three separate murders. All said he didn't participate.

Prosecutors say the case should proceed. A Friday hearing is scheduled.
