Minnesota Vikings fans may know as soon as today when star running back Adrian Peterson is eligible to return to the field following child abuse allegations against him.

ESPN reports the National Football League has scheduled a conference with an arbitrator to discuss Peterson's recent plea to child abuse charges in Texas and his playing status. He was put on the so-called commissioner's exempt list and suspended with pay on Sept. 17.

NFL.com reports the NFL may announce a discipline decision on Peterson prior to the arbitrator meeting.

Peterson had been charged with felony child abuse for beating his 4-year-old son in May. He pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor assault charge on Nov. 4.

Peterson did not participate in a league meeting about his case on Friday, saying it wasn't part of the collective bargaining agreement between the NFL and its players.

Editor's note: An earlier version of this story said Peterson pleaded guilty. He pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of reckless assault. A no contest plea isn't an admission of guilt but is treated as such for sentencing.
