Police seek public's help to ID 'dangerous' child abduction suspect

Minneapolis police officials are asking the public to help identify a man suspected of kidnapping a 7-year-old girl on the city's north side Saturday afternoon and releasing her a few hours later.

The suspect is described as a white male in his mid-30s wearing a dark-colored coat with a horizontal stripe across the chest. The man approached the girl while she was playing in her front yard with several other kids and asked her to help him find his puppy and drove away with her in a small or midsized dark green four-door car, Minneapolis Deputy Chief Kris Arneson said.

"We believe that he is a very dangerous man and we need to get him off the streets," said Arneson, who called on the suspect to turn himself in.

Arneson says the abduction is unusual in that the suspect is apparently a stranger to the child. She urged all adults caring for children to talk about "stranger danger."
