Bayport police officer saves choking woman

A seven-year veteran of the Bayport Police Department is being hailed a hero after saving the life of a choking woman.

Officer Zach Lund quickly responded to an emergency call on Thursday evening. A police report says he discovered a panicked woman who indicated she couldn't breathe and collapsed in his arms.

Police Chief Laura Eastman says Lund immediately performed the Heimlich maneuver and was able to dislodge the food item that was stuck in her throat.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports Lund will receive a Lifesaving Award at a city council meeting next month.
