A Twin Cities perspective on tensions created by police shootings

Public outcry after grand jury decisions in Ferguson, Missouri, and New York City has focused the nation's attention on police officers.

In some areas, protests have led to mounting tensions among officers and the communities they serve. In Minnesota, at least 1,500 demonstrators participated in a protest at the Mall of America on Saturday.

As national and local dialogue continues on this subject, Morning Edition has been reaching out to individuals in Minnesota on all sides of the conversation.

Christopher Guelcher is a veteran police officer in the Twin Cities. His department asked that we not identify the community where he works because he is not an official spokesperson. MPR's Cathy Wurzer spoke with him about the relationship among police officers and community members.
