Police standoff in Fridley ends

A standoff at a Fridley apartment building ended several hours after it began when a man barricaded himself inside Tuesday afternoon, forcing police to evacuate nearby residents.
Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to what the Anoka County Sheriff's Department called a "barricaded subject" in the 100 block of Island Park Drive.

Police gave few details except to say Eugene Boos, 42, who was wanted on a parole violation, was shot during his initial encounter with law enforcement, and he's in custody.
Around 12:30 p.m., police from different agencies were called to an apartment to locate Boos and check on children there.
Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek said early in the standoff, the children were allowed out. Stanek told reporters Tuesday night that Boos and a woman "barricaded themselves inside the apartment. Boos reported that he had firearms in the apartment and was not going to go peacefully with law enforcement."
The Anoka County SWAT team used tear gas and smashed apartment windows to force Boos to give up, but finally went inside, using percussive explosive devices and a robot. They said they were able to take him into custody around 7 p.m.
The Minnesota Department of Corrections considers Boos a fugitive as of Dec. 10. He was released from prison in July 2013.
The incident shut down a ramp to Interstate 694 at East River Road, causing traffic delays.
Neighbors said police evacuated residents of the apartment building and offered shelter in a Metro Transit bus. They also kept some residents of the multi-building complex from returning to their homes.
