Long-term care a growing but vexing budget issue

The 2015 legislative session begins Tuesday.

A new committee in Minnesota's House will look at issues related to the care of the state's elderly population.

The state pays roughly half the cost of long-term care for Medicaid-eligible residents, and that's an increasingly hefty bill.

The new legislative committee will likely look at ways to get more Minnesotans to save money for their future care, which would in turn keep the state's costs in check.

MPR's Cathy Wurzer spoke with Howard Gleckman, who studies long-term care at the Urban Institute.
