A Hennepin County District Court judge on Monday sentenced a Deephaven man to prison for welfare fraud.

Judge Lois Conroy ordered Colin Chisholm to serve 21 months and to repay $168,000 in state welfare benefits.

Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman called the sentencing of the 63-year-old Chisholm "a fitting end to a crime that never should have occurred."

From late 2004 to 2012, the Chisholms collected benefits they apparently did not need. Prosecutors say the Chisholms had assets of nearly $3 million and lived on a luxury yacht in Florida.

Andrea Chisholm, 54, received a shorter prison sentence last year and has already been released on parole.
