1 dead, firefighter hurt in Minneapolis fires

One person died and a firefighter was injured in a pair of overnight fires in Minneapolis.

Both fires broke out just before 11 p.m.

The first damaged a home on the 1600 block of Newton Avenue North. Three people were able to escape without getting hurt but a firefighter suffered a knee injury at the scene.

The other fire was in the 2400 block of Pleasant Avenue South. Firefighters say they could see flames on the second floor when they arrived, and a victim was found inside the home. The victim died at Hennepin County Medical Center.

It's the second fire fatality of 2015 in Minneapolis.

Both fires are under investigation.
