What's open and closed on MLK Day

Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a federal holiday honoring the civil rights icon. It was first celebrated in 1986.

Here's a look at what's open and closed.

Schools: Most public schools closed. No classes at the University of Minnesota.

Libraries: Closed.

Post offices: Closed. No regular mail.

Government offices: Local, state and federal offices are closed.

Banks: Many banks will be closed, including all Bremer Bank, U.S. Bank and Wells Fargo locations.

Shopping malls: Most are open normal hours.

Grocery stores: Most major supermarkets will be open.

Mass transit: Metro Transit buses, light rail lines and Northstar will follow regular weekday schedules.

Parking meters: The University of Minnesota, Minneapolis and St. Paul will not enforce metered parking. Minneapolis parking meters are enforced unless otherwise noted.
