A Duluth police officer on Wednesday will be recognized with the Medal of Valor, the highest national award for officers who show exceptional courage to protect human life.
Sgt. Bradley Wick is being honored for his actions during the chase of a convicted felon and his companion in 2011, a day after they had robbed a drug store and carjacked a vehicle. The suspects entered a woman's home, and shot her.
Wick entered the home and was ambushed by gunfire. He returned fire and killed the suspect. The homeowner survived.
Wick was also named Officer of the Year by the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association in 2012.

Also being recognized are two Wisconsin officers.
Oak Creek, Wis., police Lt. Brian Murphy and Officer Savan Lenda are being honored for saving lives during the Aug. 15, 2012, shooting at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin. The gunman shot Murphy. Lenda returned fire and the gunman took own life.
Vice President Joe Biden and Attorney General Eric Holder will present the medals to the 22 recipients during a ceremony at the White House complex.
