Man charged in death of 18-month-old Maplewood girl

Ramsey County prosecutors have charged a Maplewood man in the death of an 18-month-old girl in his care.

A criminal complaint says 35-year-old Leb Mike Meak told investigators he had "roughed up" his girlfriend's daughter while changing her diaper.

Medics tried to revive Genesis Xiong Thursday. Police found a number of bruises covering her stomach and chest.

Meak has been charged with second-degree murder. The Ramsey County Attorney plans to ask for bail set at $1.5 million.

Maplewood Police Chief Paul Schnell said officers responded to a call of a baby not breathing in the 2500 block of Barclay Street around 11 a.m. Thursday.

Another man at the residence was also taken in for questioning and later released.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner is investigating.
