Tax information compromised for some St. Paul retirees

Tax documents for dozens of St. Paul government retirees, which include Social Security numbers, have been mistakenly mailed to the wrong addresses.

The city says W-2 income tax forms for 134 retirees went to other retirees. The city says it's switching to a new payroll system and was checking updated addresses for former employees when the glitch occurred. Some addresses were mismatched.

Former firefighter Patrick Smith tells the St. Paul Pioneer Press the mistake has raised new concerns about identity theft. The city reissued Smith's W-2 when he didn't receive the original. He says he'll continue to monitor his accounts closely for possible breaches.
