Airline plans end to Duluth-Las Vegas flights

Allegiant Air is scheduled to suspend twice-weekly flights from Duluth International Airport to Las Vegas later this summer.

The final scheduled flights to Las Vegas will take place on Aug. 18, according to Natalie Peterson, director of communications and marketing for the Duluth Airport Authority.

"We have not been formally notified by Allegiant, we've had no conversations with them," Peterson said. "We do have an email into them to try to connect today to have them advise us as to what this means."

The Las Vegas flights, which began in 2006, are the only remaining Allegiant flights from the Duluth airport. The airline also previously flew from the Duluth airport to Orlando and Phoenix, but suspended those routes last year.

"They're a very profit-driven airline, and unfortunately our numbers have been declining for Las Vegas the last two years," Peterson said.

Officials with Allegiant Air did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
