A driver in Roseville was fortunate to walk away with only minor injuries and a big scare Tuesday after ice flew off a semitrailer and crashed through his windshield.

The driver was on Minnesota Highway 36 at Snelling Avenue when a sheet of ice slid off the semi and pierced the driver's windshield, the State Patrol reported Wednesday.

The semitrailer drove on and officials were not able to find it.

The State Patrol notes that it's "illegal to drive any vehicle with material that could potentially break loose and create a hazard." It also reminded drivers to stay back from large vehicles as temperatures start to warm and ice melts.
