Gun rights and control advocates take debate to the states

Federal gun legislation is in a deadlock. Now, gun control advocates and opponents alike are borrowing a page from the same-sex marriage movement and taking the debate to individual states.

According to a December Pew Research Center survey, "there is more support for gun rights than gun control" for the first time in more than two decades. Fifty-two percent of respondents said the right to own guns is more important, compared to 46 percent who say gun control should be top priority.
