Surplus of ideas on what to do with the state surplus

DFL Gov. Mark Dayton is set to release a supplemental budget proposal this week.

Dayton's revised tax and spending blueprint will reflect the new budget surplus, which grew to nearly $1.9 billion since his original proposal.

It will also add fuel to the growing partisan debate over how much to spend and how much to return to taxpayers this session.

Lawmakers will also be working long hours this week to try to pass bills before the first committee deadline. MPR News' Cathy Wurzer spoke with Capitol reporter Tim Pugmire.
