Rising meth use in western Wisconsin raises alarms

Minnesota authorities are warning that methamphetamine use appears to be on the rise, at least in western Wisconsin.

Cases of methamphetamine use processed by the state's crime lab tripled from 2008 to 2014, according to a recent report in the Star Tribune. But the newspaper reported that law enforcement officials don't know why methamphetamine use is increasing.

For insight on the trend, MPR News' Tom Crann, spoke to Carol Falkowski, CEO of Drug Abuse Dialogues, a company that provides training workshops to professionals and community groups. Falkowski also is the former director of the Chemical Health Division at the Minnesota Department of Human Services.
