Authorities in Minneapolis say they've made arrests and restored order after a large, chaotic group of young people blocked traffic and got into fights amid Tuesday's St. Patrick's Day celebrations in downtown.

Six high-school age boys and girls were arrested for fighting. Two young people involved in the fighting had minor injuries, Police spokesman John Elder said.

The teens came downtown from different parts of the metro area, he added.

"They arrived as the parade was ending," Elder said. "There's nothing to lead us to believe that the parade had anything to with what happened at all."

Elder says the melee was an isolated incident and that reported crime downtown has been declining over the last several years.

Police also reported a shooting in a separate area of downtown Tuesday that injured one person. No one is in custody. It wasn't immediately clear whether the shooting was related to the disturbance.
