One dead in Minneapolis apartment fire

The Minneapolis Fire Department said one person has died after an apartment fire early Thursday morning.

Firefighters responded to a first-floor apartment at 48 Groveland Terrace in Minneapolis' Loring Park neighborhood around 4 a.m. Crews were able to contain the fire to the one apartment, assistant fire chief Cherie Penn said.

Other residents were evacuated and allowed to return to their apartments shortly after the fire was out, she added.

The victim, whose identity has not been released, was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center and later died.

Nobody else was injured in the fire, which is under investigation. It marks the city's fourth fire-related death this year, with two in January and a third in February.
