Heavy snow fell in much of the southeastern and central parts of the state overnight. The wet, snow led to slippery conditions on area highways on the Monday morning commute.

Reported snowfall totals reached almost 10 inches in Lakeville and 9 inches in Zumbrota, according to the National Weather Service in Chanhassen. Preliminary snowfall totals at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport show almost 4 inches, one of the largest snowfalls reported there this season.

The wet snowfall and cooler temperatures combined to make roads slick.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported 164 crashes statewide as the storm rolled in on Sunday evening, with 20 injuries and zero fatalities.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation reported on Monday morning that many roads in the west-central and southeastern part of the state were completely covered with snow. The conditions led to crashes and spinouts during Monday morning's commute.

National Weather Service meteorologist Lisa Schmit said more wintry weather may be on the way.

"We do have another storm system just on the heels of this one, and that's going to affect us from Tuesday into Thursday," Schmit said. "We could see another wintry mix with a little bit of accumulating snow as well."

The weather is expected to dry up this weekend, although Schmit said temperatures will likely remain cooler than normal through the start of April.
