Wandering dog leads to marijuana bust in Duluth Township

Authorities say reports of a wandering pit bull helped bust a $100,000 marijuana grow operation in Duluth Township.

Chief Shawn Padden says he smelled a strong odor of marijuana at the door of a trailer when he went to return the dog to its owner.

WDIO-TV reports officers executed a search warrant at the trailer last week and found 77 marijuana plants. Police say they also found thousands of dollars worth of grow equipment including lights, climate control devices and video monitoring equipment.

Officials say a 57-year-old Duluth man and his 26-year-old son were distributing the drug. They say 6 pounds packaged for sale and several hundred dollars in proceeds from previous sales were seized from the home.

Padden says the men likely will face felony drug charges.
