Major League Soccer is coming to the Twin Cities.

The league made it official Wednesday when they announced that an expansion franchise had been awarded to Minneapolis.

MLS officials said the team will start to play in 2018 in a stadium being planned for downtown Minneapolis.

It will join several other major league franchises in the Twin Cities, but is Major League Soccer really a major league? MPR's Cathy Wurzer discussed the topic with Stefan Szymansk, a professor of sports management at the University of Michigan. His book "Money and Soccer" will be published in June.
