Authorities probe human remains found in southern Minnesota

Authorities are investigating a suspicious death near Albert Lea in southern Minnesota.

A 911 call from a property owner about possible human remains led Freeborn County sheriff's deputies to discover the human bones near a fence along the south side of Interstate 90, about half a mile east of Minnesota Highway 13.

Officials say the remains appear to be those of a male and were apparently there for a number of years. The remains will be taken to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office to determine a possible cause and manner of death.

Deputies say there are no known missing persons cases in Freeborn County to connect to the investigation.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting the sheriff's office in the investigation. An autopsy is pending.
