Charges: Shakopee teacher sent suggestive texts to boy, 15

A Shakopee school teacher has been charged with sending sexually suggestive text messages to a teenager he met through a local theater group.

Prosecutors charged Andrew Scott Hasty, 34, of Cumberland, Wis., with three felonies, including solicitation and using a cell phone to describe sexual conduct with a child. Charges from the Carver County Attorney's Office say that a detective from the Carver County Sheriff's Office got a report in February that a 15-year-old boy had been receiving inappropriate text messages.

The boy told authorities that he'd known Hasty for about four years, and met him through the Chaska Valley Family Theater. Investigators found that Hasty had expressed an interest in having physical contact with the boy, according to the charges. He also allegedly asked the boy to send him a photo of his genitals and tried to arrange to meet him alone.

A Shakopee Public Schools spokeswoman said Hasty has been a music teacher at Pearson 6th Grade Center. He has been put on leave, and the district is also investigating the situation.

Hasty is being held in the Carver County jail and is scheduled for a court appearance Friday.
