MPR News' Tom Crann looked at three American cities making national headlines and asked writers there what conversations they're overhearing on the ground.

We started in Boston, where citizens are reliving the marathon bombing and debating what should happen to the convicted bomber, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

Then to Miami, where the Cuban community closely watched President Obama's handshake with Cuban President Raul Castro last weekend.

We ended in Chicago where former Obama Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel survived a tough progressive challenge to win a second term as mayor.
